One-Visit Dentistry
Some people have problem with a number of visits required to get proper dental treatment. We live in a very fast-paced world and it’s quite understandable how multiple visits to a dental office could affect your daily routine.
In some cases it is quite possible to keep your visits to a minimum or even get a lot of dentistry done in one day, but impossible in other cases. Understanding of a dental procedure that is required for different treatments will help you assess the time needed for such treatment.

For example:
  • One or more cavities that affect one side of the mouth – one visit.
  • Multiple cavities that affect different sides of the mouth- multiple visits.
  • Single tooth extraction – one visit.
  • Multiple teeth extracted – multiple visits.
  • Root canal – depending on complexity could be one or two visits.
  • Crown – two visits.
  • Bridge – two visits.
  • Partial or Denture- three or more visits.

Those are just a basic guidelines for complete the above mentioned procedures. They are based on ideal conditions. In some cases, due certain complications, it could take even more visits to complete those treatments.

Dentists provide dental services to consumers in their community, and will try to accommodate those patients that cannot tolerate multiple visits. But, one must understand that performing many dental procedures in a single visit could have consequences. Dentist will ask the patient to take frequent breaks to rest their mouth, and also inform him or her about the potential for discomfort for a few days after the treatment is completed. In some cases discomfort is so great that this patient has to miss time from work anyway, the time that she or he was trying to avoid missing by having this long dental appointment.

Unusual circumstances call for unique solutions, and long dental appointments could be an answer for those of us who prefer fewer appointments.
